IT Support Technician

General Description:

Provide IT support to commercial clients, both onsite and remote within approximately one (1) hour radius of Dayton, OH.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Installing, configuring, and supporting new installations as well as maintaining existing client environments. Will involve full range of support activities involving network and security devices, server administration and desktop support. Focus will be supporting Microsoft-centric environments of servers, workstations (PCs/laptops) and associated cloud-based services. Will frequently work with customers’ end users and internal IT staff both onsite and remote.

Specialized Knowledge:

All facets of Windows Server (2008/2012/2016/2019) and PC desktop administration (Win7/Win10) to include managing Active Directory, creating Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and managing file/print sharing. Understanding of centralized Windows management practices using Microsoft and 3rd Party tools such as the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)/Windows Deployment Services (WDS). Experience with managing Hyper-V based servers in conjunction with Storage Area Networks (SAN)/Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems.

Skills Required: 

  • Maintaining backup systems, cloud-based or on premise for Windows Servers and applications servers such as SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange.
  • Diagnosing PC/server hardware issues and performing component repairs on servers, desktops and laptops.
  • Configuring anti-virus/anti-spam systems and content screening appliances from Barracuda, ESET, Symantec and other security software/hardware manufacturers.
  • Designing and supporting IP-based networks, both logical and physical, wired and wireless.
  • Maintaining network equipment such as firewalls, switches and WiFi.
  • Must have strong ability to multitask and balance workload at multiple client locations. Able to work both independently and in a team environment. Comfortable working in new environments on a regular basis.
  • Ability to communicate with non-technical end users and client representatives and discuss technical IT options and recommendations.
  • This individual should be organized, reliable, highly self-motivated, able to work with limited management direction, must work well in a team environment and have solid verbal and written communications skills.
  • No on-call support requirements but system upgrades and similar disruptive events may require evening or weekend hours.


Frequent local travel within 60 minutes of the Dayton Metro region for onsite client support needs. Must have reliable personal transportation.


High School Diploma or GED

Professional Certifications:

Current Microsoft credentials – prefer a current MCSA or higher; 2012 certifications are acceptable but must be updated within three months of start and kept current throughout employment period. CompTIA A+, Network+ or Security+ or Cisco CCNA/CCDA a plus.


Three – five (3-5) years of experience providing IT support with an emphasis on Microsoft-related server technologies.

Skills Preferred:

  • Ability to manage and maintain Microsoft servers; solid understanding of email flows and how Exchange interfaces with spam filtering systems.
  • Experience supporting and/or migrating to Microsoft Office 365 online services.
  • Ability to configure firewalls such as Cisco ASA or others, creating VPNs, and supporting remote user issues with connectivity and VPN access.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server helpful, but not required.
  • Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux helpful, but not required.
  • Knowledge of Voice over IP (IP Telephony) a plus.
  • Other Characteristics (e.g., Personal or Language):

Strong oral, written, and communication in English. Must be able to work in a team environment. Must be able to effectively communicate with non-technical users via telephone and deskside.
